Our Business Plan

How do you turn a much loved village pub into one the community owns and runs? Our Business Plan sets out exactly how we will do it, from the day the Society takes over.

The approach is simple: keep what people love, put the basics right, and do more with what the pub already has. The historic freehouse stays, with its open fires, Harvey’s and local ales, and Black Pig cider from Danehill.

Here is what we will build on that:

  • A kitchen that is consistent, with one carefully costed core menu.
  • Better use of space, with the former function room for celebrations and around 130 outside seats in summer.
  • More reasons to visit from Monday pizza nights and a monthly supper club to coffee mornings and walking clubs.

An experienced general manager will run the pub day to day, accountable to a Board elected by members. We’ll also train our own young chefs through apprenticeships and local colleges.

The plan is grounded in real figures and built out over five years. We are targeting 15% growth in Year One with consistent growth over the next four years and cash staying positive throughout.

The plan is candid about the risks. It shows what happens if trading falls short and sets out the actions we would take. Detailed questions can be found in the Q&A document.
